Hurricane Litigation

Hurricane Litigation

You are here: Home / Practice Areas / Insurance Litigation / Hurricane Litigation

In the not so distant past, Hurricanes Rita, Ike, and Harvey (and Imelda)  damaged and/or destroyed tens of thousands of properties in Texas. Lindsay, Lindsay & Parsons was very active in assisting hundreds and hundreds of families to ensure that they were treated fairly and properly compensated for their storm damage.

Prior to hiring an attorney to handle your claim, you should contact your local insurance agent. Your insurance company has several responsibilities to you, the policyholder. Among these, they have a responsibility to timely and fairly evaluate your damages. It can be helpful for you to contact a local contractor and obtain an estimate to repair your home while your insurance company is evaluating your claim. If you feel you have not been treated or compensated fairly, you should contact an attorney to represent you and protect your legal rights.

If you have a mortgage on your home, the check will be made payable to you and your mortgage company. The mortgage company has the right to ensure that the repairs are made fully and in a timely manner. Depending on the language in your mortgage contract, your mortgage company may hold the check in an escrow account and make disbursements to you as repairs are made.

The lawyers at Lindsay, Lindsay & Parsons have a great deal of experience in assisting individuals with bad-faith claims against their insurance company. Should disaster strike this area again, we will be ready, willing, and able to assist you in all your legal needs throughout the recovery process. Prior to the next storm, you may contact us and we would be happy to assist you in preparing the necessary documents to prove portions of your claim. For example, it may be necessary to provide your insurance company with receipts of purchases made in an effort to establish the value of those items.

Either before or after a storm, please feel free to contact the lawyers at Lindsay, Lindsay & Parsons for a free consultation. We would be happy to assist you in any of your legal needs in this area.

Is it time to take it to the next level?
